tuckshop
Dear Ciara,
Just a quick one today. I’ve been inspired by Chloe’s Catina and Courtyard to try and attract more birds to my garden. I want to create my own bird "tuckshop", so to speak. While we have a couple of resident birds, including a feisty willie-wagtail and a deafening peewee (magpie-lark), I am interested in attracting a wider variety of species. To help do this, The Organist and I made a quick trip to the hardware store today and came home with a gorgeous bird feeder:

I have filled it with a mixture of different seeds, including sunflower and millet. Most of the birds in our area are insectivorous or feed primarily on nectar, so I am not sure what the seeds might attract. I have seen some sparrows and mannikins nearby, so maybe them? The other option is filling the bird feeder with dried mealworms for the insectivores. It will likely take some time before word spreads that we are leaving out seed, though. I will sit with it for a while before I go changing up what is on offer.
I’d like to buy a few more local plants over the next few weeks as well, to encourage some other nectar-eaters to visit. We often get friarbirds and rainbow lorikeets feeding on the callistemon tree out front. I’m interested in enticing them over the fence. I'd like to see more sunbirds and honeyeaters in the garden too.
The song for today is:

A positive song for a positive morning.
