cold
Dear Ciara,
It’s cold. Can you believe it? The forecast for the day reads 27 degrees, but it has mostly sat at around 18/19 degrees—freezing by Tropical Queensland standards. It doesn’t help that there is heavy cloud cover smothering the sun and a strange absence of humidity. Eerie. I hadn’t realised how much I’d acclimatised to the weather up here until now. The slightest decrease in temperature and I have run for my jacket. It is nice to wear a jacket again, though. I feel I look my best in a jacket.
Given the cold weather today, I decided to treat the day as a cosy one. I made an almost-bucket of coffee, did some household chores, baked some homemade scones. I will take some of these to a church event later, but mostly I made them to prove to The Organist that I can make them. They're probably a little crisper than I would have liked.
My landlord also gave me some small plastic planters today. I didn’t have much soil for them, but using what I had, I managed to fill one of the planters up. I have planted a white variety of cosmos in there, along with some gomphrena seeds. I do have some gomphrena growing already in one of my raised garden beds, but pests are ravaging it. I’m sure the same thing will happen to this planter box, but I will figure out a plan while I wait for the seeds to germinate. I'm not sure what I will do with the other planters yet.
A gecko above the washing machine, barking wildly at my shadow as I shuffle around. He must thing I am some sort of ancient, angry God, wielding a diabolical weapon, AKA a washing basket.
How are you spending this cold day, Ciara? I’m sure it must be much colder down south with you. I hope you are rugging up and keeping warm.
The song for today is:
Y Gath — Gwenno
This is a new release form Gwenno, and features backing vocals from an assortment of other Welsh artists. It is absolutely hypnotic—rolling lyrics that are a little bit ominous, a little bit humorous. Enjoy.
Love,
The Gardener
