bird photos #1
Dear Ciara,
This week, I took some photographs of the different birds that frequent our garden. Some of them were quite hard to photograph, but I am happy with what I did manage to snap. Here are some of my favourite shots:
Willie-Wagtail
Willie is our resident willie-wagtail. He is very feisty, often swooping me when I walk to my car. This year, Willie and his wife have successfully raised two chicks. We believe they are nesting again.

Australasian Figbird
These often come to feed on the callistemon tree out the front. The males have gorgeous red skin around their eyes that make their eyes pop.

Graceful Honeyeater
The smallest of the honeyeater species that visit our garden. They are obsessed with the Carruthers’ Falseface at the moment, which is blooming profusely.

Varied Honeyeater
Another honeyeater species that sometimes visits.

Peewee (Magpie-Lark)
Another one of our resident birds. The peewees in our area seem to each have a territory of 4—6 houses. They will defend their territory ruthlessly.

White-Breasted Woodswallow
Such gorgeous birds that nest in the telephone pole out front.

Scaly-Breasted Munia
Not the best picture in the world, but these are quite common in my area. They are an introduced species but seem to blend in well with other finches.

Rainbow Bee-Eater
The stars of the show. Most in the area seem to have migrated south, but there are a few left at a dusty park near our house. We often spy them sitting on the electricity wires, waiting for passing insects.

So, these are the birds I managed to snap this week. I hope to continue my birdwatching, taking the time to photograph these amazing creatures. My goal is to photograph a sunbird, who I just adore, but they are so impossibly fast.
The song for today is:
Nine Stories — Hazel English
More Hazel English this week. She kept me company during my birdwatching.
Love,
The Gardener
